In our launching of our new website, I’ve been asked to write a blog. I’ve never done this before. I’m only on ‘Facebook’. I don’t twitter. Nor do I use MSN Messenger.
I was thinking about what I should write for my first blog. And I decided to write about how I met my husband because only a handful know this story. I have to say, it’s a really magical story.
About 6 1/2 years ago, May 30, 2003, Shane Farberman came into the shop to buy some items for his show. He comes into the shop on a pretty regular basis. I knew that if anyone would know people Shane would. So on this particular day, I asked Shane if he knew anyone who was around 37 to fix me up with.
Shane asked me two questions. 1)Your not crazy are you? I responded, you won’t find a more down to earth person than me. 2)Your not nuts are you? I responded, no I’m not nuts. You won’t find a more honest person than me. So Shane pulled out his cell phone and said, “Hi Marv, are you interested in meeting someone?” He said “sure”. Shane handed me the phone, and Marvin and I spoke for about 5 minutes. We exchanged phone numbers and said we’d talk later because Shane wanted his phone back. That was the start of the two of us dating.
Later that week we went out for dinner.
He was wearing one of his Hawaiian shirts. The minute I answered the door, I recognized him. He came into the shop many times to buy Shane’s stuff.
We hit it off, to say the least. We both knew that this was it, that we were the one. That he was everything I was looking for in a partner and the same goes with him.
On Wednesday, September 24, 2003, Marvin, Shane, Serena and I went out for dinner. Shane earlier that day called and said he’d be giving me an envelope that he was going to give Serena. He wanted to surprise her with a trip. He also said he was going to get her flowers. So that night they came to pick me up and we went to a very fancy restaurant downtown off of Wellington St. We all ordered our meals. Mine was a Lamb Bisque, which was absolutely delicious. At dessert time, the waiter said I’ll bring out 5 samples. So he comes over and places down these 5 samples on this elongated narrow dish. I wasn’t really noticing, but there were two dishes. So he pulls out the second dish and in chocolate handwriting it says, “Will You Marry Me?” I was breathless for what seemed like minutes, but I did say ‘Yes’!
I picked Sunday, May 30, 2004 as our wedding date. The rest they say is history. We’ve been married now for 5 1/2 years.
Until Next Time,
Shawna
